‘Kuya’s Angels’ was how Pinoy Big Brother Business Unit Head Lauren Dyogi described Toni Gonzaga, Mariel Rodriguez, and Bianca Gonzales—PBB hosts for almost three seasons. But even though Toni, Mariel and Bianca have been consistently the anchors of the show, each admitted that every new season, they also worry whether they will be replaced by new hosts or not. Each of them expressed their apprehensions on their hosting jobs.

Toni: “Siyempre lagi pong kinakabahan, lagi kaming nag-iisip baka gusto na nila ng bago dahil syempre bagong season pero kasi siguro we have faith kay Direk Lauren and sa PBB management and team na we’re like a family na kasi, eh. Kung baga kahit na siguro mawala kami, we will return as the prodigal daughters, babalik pa rin kami talaga. Kasi malaki ang involvement ng show at malaki na ring part ng buhay namin bilang artista at bilang hosts ang show na PBB.”

Bianca: “Of course! Sobra. Syempre sa showbiz meron nang bago, meron nang bata pero we work hard din naman talaga. We love the show with all our hearts. We always talk about kung gaano namin kamahal yung Pinoy Big Brother so I guess bumabalik din lang samin yung pagmamahal nila.”

Mariel: “For me, lagi lang ako nagho-hope na sana ako pa rin. Laging ganun lang and feeling ko nag-grow ako sa PBB kasi when I started naman hindi naman talga ako marunong mag-host. Malaki ang pasasalamat ko kay Direk Lauren, kay Tita Linggit Tan na kahit papano sa lahat ng seasons kasama pa rin ako.”

After they have admitted their worries, Direk Lauren revealed that changing PBB hosts was never considered by the management. “Just for the record, never pumasok sa isip ko na magpalit ng hosts. Pinoy Big Brother will not be the same kung magtatanggal ako ng isa sa kanila. Masyado na nakakabit kay Toni, kay Mariel at kay Bianca yung pangalang Pinoy Big Brother parang hindi maganda na may mawawalang isa sa kanila.”

The three hosts were surprised to hear though what Direk Lauren said about them. “Sobra kaming na-touch kasi first time to hear something like that,” Bianca said. Mariel even got teary-eyed about it. “Grabe ito yung show na talagang were so passionate about. Ito yung show na talagang yung buong puso namin ibibigay (namin) talaga. Nakakadiri umiiyak ako. I’m so gross,” Mariel joked.

Acording to Direk Lauren, having all female hosts is part of Pinoy Big Brother’s image positioning. After Willie Revillame’s hosting stint in the First Edition, the Pinoy Big Brother team has decided that Big Brother will be the only male figure and authority in the show. “Nung first season we had Willie, Willie and Toni at that time nung first season, hanggang sa naging busy na si Willie sa Wowowee. Yung male figure kasi is si Big Brother na, eh, so yung female silang tatlo na yun. Parang mas appropriate na isa lang talaga ang lalaki sa programa, si Big Brother lang and I think it works naman for us and the program. We like it na tatlong magagandang hosts ang hosts ng programa.” Though Luis Manzano has also hosted for Pinoy Big Brother, Direk Lauren cleared that it was just for the Teen Edition and there will never be a male host for the main seasons.

The hosts were also asked if they have an idea who Pinoy Big Brother is or who is the voice behind it. The press people said that Big Brother’s and Direk Lauren’s voices sound the same and asked if Direk Lauren is actually Big Brother. Each of the three ladies testified that they are two different individuals.
