After singing the theme of Pinoy Big Brother, “Pinoy Ako,” with his then band Orange and Lemons, Macoy Fundales became a housemate himself in the hit reality show’s Celebrity Edition 2 in 2007. Many fans at that time were rooting for him to become the Big Winner but sadly, Macoy made a voluntary exit after having a misunderstanding with Big Brother. ABS-CBN.com interviewed the singer-musician during his taping for Pilipinas Game KNB with fellow PBB alumni where he said that the incident taught him a very important lesson. “The number one eye-opener dun was I got to find out what my weakness is. Ako kasi I can be so passionate about something that sometimes nagiging over the top na ‘yung emotions. I lost the game because nagpadala ako sa emosyon. After what happened natutunan ko na maging mas in control of my emotions.”

Macoy clarified that after his voluntary exit, he easily made up with PBB management. A couple of days later, he also had the chance to speak with Kuya and patch things up with the mysterious character that he looked up to as a father. “At the end of it all nagkaroon kami ni Kuya ng respeto sa isa’t isa. I miss hearing Kuya’s voice. When I became a housemate wala na kasi akong tatay. So si Kuya ‘yung nagsilbing pangalawang ama ko kahit boses lang siya. He would tell me what to do and would give me advice kapag naguguluhan ako. Kuya was always there to listen gaya rin ng dad ko nung nabubuhay pa siya. Kapag naririnig ko ang boses ni Kuya feeling ko may tatay ulit ako.”

With the PBB craze very much alive again because of the new Double Up season set to begin this October 4, Macoy couldn’t help but miss the fun times he had with other celebrity housemates. The mini-PBB reunion for Game KNB allowed him and other ex-housemates to reminisce about the good old days. “Before ang nakikita ko lang sa kanila mga isa o dalawa. Ngayon nakita ko silang lahat, ‘yung mga kasamahan ko nung season ko, ang saya, para lang kaming nasa loob ng bahay ulit. Sila talaga ‘yung mga na-miss ko kasi we were like a big family inside the house and mas lalo kaming naging close outside. Kaya every time na magkikita kami I’m very happy.”

Macoy has been busy doing gigs with his band Kenyo and promoting their new album entitled Maharlika. To the new batch of housemates for the Double Up season, the band vocalist has this advice. “You need to learn how to compromise. Dapat marunong kang makisama because at first you will be dealing with strangers. When you learn how to compromise eventually these people will become your friends and your family. Dapat ang bawat housemate marunong mag-adjust sa isa’t isa. Give and take lang lagi.”
